SADCO is seeking nominations for the 2014 Bertha Torres Award. The nominees must show exemplary efforts in service to those in need within the Latino Community in Central Indiana.
2013 Bertha Torres Award
Sociedad Amigos de Colombia, SADCO, established the Bertha Torres award to honor and remember the contributions of Mrs. Bertha Torres, SADCO’s founder and active volunteer during 29 years. This year SADCO awarded an individual but also an organization that are doing exactly what Bertha does every day, helping each other to make this world a better place.
During the Gala 2013, SADCO awarded Ms. Rocio Rodriguez and Kiwanis Club of Castleton Foundation for his exemplary efforts in service to those in need within the Latino Community in Central Indiana.
The 2013 Bertha Torres Service Award winner for an individual was Ms. Rocio Rodriguez, president of Su Casa Columbus. Ms. Rodriguez participates in multiple local Latino organizations, she leads Su Casa Columbus, and CLAA and is an active member of Cummins’ GOAL affinity group. Rocio, through these organizations, champions change in the community to continuously integrate the growing Latino population into the Bartholomew County.
The award winner for an Organization was Kiwanis Club of Castleton foundation. Mr. Rolan Kjosen, President of the foundation received the award on behalf of the organization.
Kiwanis Club of Castleton foundation is part of the Indiana District of Kiwanis. During calendar years 2004-2012, the organization has raised $75,000 and has made a significant impact in our community and the world. They focus on projects that benefit children and young adults.
